BORON (B) - FUNCTIONS OF BORON IN PLANTS AND DEFICIENCY SYMPTOMS

Boron is in the form of unionized boric acid (BHCO)3 in soil. The limits of boron deficiency and toxicity occur within a very narrow window. Therefore, great care should be taken when fertilizing.

Boron has a relationship with protein synthesis in plants. It takes part in the formation and transportation of carbohydrates. It helps transport and replace calcium. It affects flower and fruit setting. It is necessary for pollen formation and hormone synthesis.

Boron deficiency causes heart rot in sugar beet, brown pith in radishes, brown spots in potatoes, crown disease in tobacco, fungal seed house in apples, or tipç Diseases such as yellowing are seen.

· The fruits are small and distorted.

· Cracks are seen in the fruit and these cracks are obvious.

· Flower formation is low, flower drop may be seen and pollen decreases.

· Youngç shoots are short and gum-flowing is observed.
